2008 water and sewer rates

As per the Town's Water Rate Policy, passed by Council on May 5, 2008:

The basic water rate for residential and commercial will increase from $20.00 to $20.60 per month. The overages for water will be as follows: $1.09 per cubic meter of consumption in excess of thirteen (13) meters per month, up to and including sixty (60) cubic meters, and

$0.93 per cubic meter of consumption in excess of sixty (60) cubic meters per month.

Sewer rates for residential and commercial will be $7.50 per month. The overages for sewer not designated residential, will be as follows:

2008 final tax notices

The Town of Assiniboia 2008 Tax Notices have been mailed out. This is your official notice of the 2008 Tax Levy.
A discount of 1% is available on amounts paid on or before May 31st, 2008. There is no discount allowed on frontage rates.
After July 1st, 2008, a charge of 1% per month shall be imposed monthly, calculated on the amount outstanding.

water use & restrictions

Watering restrictions are now in effect within the Town of Assiniboia.
If your property has a civic address which ends with an odd number, you may water your lawn or garden ONLY on odd numbered days.

If your property has a civic address which ends with an even number, you may water your lawn or garden ONLY on even numbered days.

There is no watering between the hours of
9:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.
Permits to water new lawns may be obtained at the Town Office.
Your co-operation is greatly appreciated.
As temperatures soar, so does water use.
The Town of Assiniboia offers
these simple rules for sensible watering:
- Don't be wasteful. Give your lawn 2.5 cm of water each week. That's approximately 20-30 minutes of water for an average lawn sprinkler.
- Don't water in the wind.
- Don't water pavement, porches, or pedestrians.
- Don't cut grass shorter than 5 to 7.5 cm.
- Replace water-hungry grass with plants that require less water, such as shrubs, perennials, vines or ground cover.

municipal composting project

Assiniboia Compost Inc., with support from the Town of Assiniboia, will be beginning pickup for the summer season. The first day for FREE sidewalk pickup of "compost materials" from the front curb will be Friday, May 9th, 2008.
REGULAR PICKUP

East Side of Town Monday after 6:00 p.m.

West Side of Town Fridays after 6:00 p.m.

Compost Materials Include:
- Coffee Grounds, Tea Bags, Tea Leaves, Egg Shells, Vegetables/Fruits
- Corn Cobs, Flowers, Grass Clippings, Leaves
We will not collect:
- Garbage, Tree Branches, Straw/Hay, Wood Chips
- Meat Scraps, Pet Waste, Sawdust, Kitchen Waste

WASTE COLLECTION HELPFUL HINTS

Every working day your refuse collector picks up large volumes of waste. Plese follow these suggestions to help make collections safer and easier.

- Keep It Light: Garbage bags or can should not contain more than 25kg. Tree branches should be cut into 4 foot lengths and bundled for easy pickup.
- Bag The Loose Stuff: Make sure all loose materials, light plastics and bits of paper are put into bags to avoid unwanted clutter. Make sure to double bag cat litter, vacuum cleaner dust, sawdust, or pet feces.
- Let It Flow: Make sure that you are able to place lids securely on the can once you have filled them. This will prevent your lids from blowing away.
- Keep It Clean: Make sure you keep the waste collection site clean and tidy.
- Buying A New Can? Make sure it is water tight, rust resistant metal or plastic container of circuler design, having a metal or plastic water tight cover and a smooth rim with rigid handles.

drinking water quality and compliance annual notice to consumers of assiniboia

Saskatchewan Environment requires that at least once each year, waterworks owners provide notification to consumers of the quality of water produced and supplied, as well as information on the performance of the waterworks in submitting samples as required by a Permit to Operate a Waterworks.

A summary of Assiniboia's water quality and sample submission compliance record for the 2007 fiscal year are now available and may be optained at the Town Office during regular office hours.

All submissions and requests to Council, including delegations, must be received by the Administrator of the Town of Assiniboia by 5:00 p.m. on the Thursday prior to Council's regularly scheduled meetings. Council meets on the first and third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. in the Asaskan Complex Council Chambers.
notice all dog owners

The Town of Assiniboia Bylaw N. 861 requires that ALL dogs be licensed. Permitting your dog(s) to run at large results in problems to other property owners and, as such, will not be tolerated.

The following is a breakdown of charges for the impoundment of any dog:
Running at Large $ 50.00
Impounding Fee $40.00
Not Licensed $ 30.00
Additional Charge $20.00 (Dogs impounded more than once/year)

Excessive barking and howling is an offence under Section 21 of Bylaw
No. 861 and liable to a $50.00 fine.

We would appreciate your co-operation concerning these matters.

All dog licenses expire on the 31st of December in any given year.
- business licenses
  - Anyone intending to perform any type of operation/business in the Town of Assiniboia, must make application for a Business License prior to commencement of such business. The penalty incurred, as a result of failure to purchase a Business License, is a fine of $300.00 to $500.00, plus the cost of such Business License.
  - Please ensure that any salesperson, contractors, etc., coming to your home has purchased a Town of Assiniboia Business License. If you are unsure of the validity of the business, please contact either of the following:

  - Your co-operation in notifying the Town of any such operation/business which may be in Town without a license would be appreciated.
