Sports and Recreation

Assiniboia has community pride and spirit that carries from business into recreation. The Town of Assiniboia has a fully staffed Department of Recreation that provides the people of Assiniboia with all-season activity. The Department of Recreation works with the extensive network of volunteers to create a variety of activities.

Nothing is more refreshing than a nice cool swim on a hot summer day. The Centre is open from the Victoria Day Monday until Labour Day Monday (weather permitting). There is also a Concession open during pool hours.

Tennis Court

Situated adjacent to the Aquatic Center, is the town's tennis court. Come play a set before cooling off in the pool.

For just a $5.00 deposit, Tennis Rackets & Balls, Basketballs and Beach Volleyball can be rented from the Aquatic Centre Concession daily when the concession is open.

The Civic Centre offers both indoor and outdoor skating facilities. The artificial ice indoor facility has seating for 1000 persons and 6 dressing rooms, some with showers. A concession booth serves hot and cold food. The ice surface is looked after with an Olympia ice resurfacer. The outdoor facility has lighting for evening events. It is usually available (weather permitting) from mid to late November to late February or early March.

Outdoor Skating Rink
The Outdoor Skating Rink in the Civic Centre Parking Lot is open during the Winter, weather permitting. Anyone playing shinny hockey is reminded that you must wear a helmet and gloves while on the Outdoor Rink. Your co-operation is greatly appreciated.

Toboggan Hill
The Parks & Recreation Dept. has developed a Toboggan Hill in the Family Facility Park. The hill is located between the Aquatic Centre and the Tennis Courts and is open to everyone to enjoy during the winter months.      HAVE FUN!

Enjoy one of Assiniboia's recreational parks. The Family Facility Park located near the Civic Centre on Assiniboia Avenue, is outfitted with:

The Tot Spot Program is closed for the Summer.

The Tot Spot Program is for parents, and children 0 - 5 years old to drop in and spend quality time together; playing and interacting with each other and other parents/children. The program is supervised along with lots of activities and equipment.

For those who enjoy a round or two of golf, South Central Saskatchewan has several excellent golf courses, including the Assiniboia Regional Park Golf Course, which has been expanding with a growing membership and improvements over the past few years. Located only 4 km southeast of Assiniboia, the course boasts grass greens, wide treed fairways, an irrigation and pumping system, reservoir and fully modern (licensed) clubhouse facility. Assiniboia is quickly gaining national recognition for its superb Upland Game as well as big game and migratory bird-hunting opportunities. In the fall, an estimated 2 to 3 million snow geese gather along with a variety of other wildlife, proving Assiniboia to be a hunter's delight.

Along Highway #2, near our town's centre is our Regional Park, furnished with well-treed, serviced campsites and picnic areas. The park is conveniently located within walking distance of downtown and is adjacent to our pool and playgrounds. The campground has 15 electrical sites and 2 non-electric sites. Or try a stay at one of the other local Parks & Campgrounds.

Prince of Wales Cultural & Recreation Centre

Located at 201 3rd Avenue West this new 62,000 square foot facility is home to the Olympia Theatre, the Curling Arena, Cultural Centre, Southeast Regional College, X-treme Fitness, Karate Club and the Assiniboia & District Public Library.

Walking Program:

The Parks & Recreation Dept. and the Prince of Wales are providing a Walking Program in the CONEXUS Auditorium for walking enthusiasts of all ages.
