It is an exciting time of change for the Community Service Department in Assiniboia. Staff and volunteers are currently preparing the scope of a new Master Plan for facilities and programs for the community. During the process, efforts are being made to focus on the future of recreation in Assiniboia while not forgetting the work performed by previous staff in programming and maintenance of current facilities.

In the coming years, considerations in the Community Services Master Plan may include: to look at the lifecycle planning for the existing facilities, to look at future viability and construction of a new multi-purpose facility (that may include an indoor swimming pool, arena, and/or other features), to look at the revitalization of our playgrounds, and finally, consideration will be made to look at the capacity to increase the amount and diversity of programs offered to the community by the Community services department.

So as you can see this is an exciting time and we are encouraging everyone to participate. In the next few months the citizens of Assiniboia will be asked to provide their input on the direction for the future of community services programming and facilities in Assiniboia. Each individual, irrelevant of age, will be encouraged to take this opportunity to provide feedback and truly become part of the community planning process. Together we can create a vibrant and healthy Assiniboia for many generations to come.

The Town of Assiniboia encourages participation in physical and cultural activities for both individual and community well-being. Whether you are out for a stroll, playing a round of golf, taking a painting class, skating in our arenas, or swimming in our pool, staff of the Community Services Department is committed to ensuring your experience is an enjoyable one.

Programming:

Develops a diversified program of recreation and cultural activities and services to meet the needs of the community.

Facilitate preventative social services and community initiatives which contribute to the quality of life and family wellness in our community.

Meets with representatives of private and voluntary organizations offering recreation and cultural programs with a view to furthering cooperation and coordination of programs.

Facilities:

Supervises the acquisition, planning, design, construction, renovation and maintenance of recreation facilities and areas under the jurisdiction of the Community Services Department.

Prepares schedules and calendars of events for the facilities and areas under its jurisdiction.

Develops and implements policies regarding the use of facilities and areas under the jurisdiction.

Promotes the maximum use of the facilities by schools, community groups, and other users for recreation and cultural activities.

Maintenance and Repairs:

Ensures that all equipment, facilities, and areas are maintained to at least a minimum level where recreation and cultural activities can be held in a safe and enjoyable manner
