Welcome to Assiniboia

The community of Assiniboia invites you to the heart of the Golden South. Assiniboia  has a strong sense of community spirit, over 100 businesses ready to serve you and there is always something going on.

The original Northwest Territories' District of Assiniboia, which encompassed Southern Saskatchewan from South of Saskatoon to the U.S. border was named after the Assiniboine Indians.

The word Assiniboia is Saulteaux (Plains Ojibwa) meaning "One who cooks with heated stones". It is from this rich dowry the town of Assiniboia adopted its name. Assiniboia officially became a Village on December 22, 1912 and was incorporated as a Town on October 1, 1913.

Thank You for visiting Assiniboia, and we hope you enjoy your stay! We invite you to browse through our Business and Service Directory
